1980s: A MEETING PLACE
From the beginning, Lawson Flats has been a place to commune. One of its first residents was the Perth Club, whose members met in the lower floors of the building to discuss their hopes and plans for their burgeoning city. In 1986, fifty years after Lawson Flats was built, the building was refurbished and its membership turned on its head: the Perth Club made way for the Karrakatta Club, a women’s club which counted among its members Australia’s first elected female Parliamentarian.
