1937: THE LAWSON APARTMENTS + CONSTRUCTION
Lawson Flats burst toward the sky in the double-palazzo style – L’Esprit Nouveau! It was, in its day, among the tallest buildings in Perth, its physical stature outmatched only by its ambition. Perfectly located on the water, studded then as now with date palms, Lawson Flats mimicked the Art Deco and Spanish Mission ornamentation of California, winking at Hollywood during its golden years. And this attracted famous (and infamous) residents, who dined and drank downstairs at Luis’ Restaurant Classique, gossiped in the lounge, and laid their heads in the apartments above.
